JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Library Officer:

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the library and provision of reference, information and associated services to teaching staff and students;
  • Administers library systems which ensure library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students, staff and parents at all times;
  • Conducts library skills training and demonstrates the use of library equipment;
  • Prepares procedure manuals for library equipment, as required;
  • Assists students, parents and staff to select program and age appropriate materials;
  • Prepares and monitors of the library budget and makes recommendations for new library resources;
  • Coordinates the rosters for library visits;
  • Provides technical advice on the library Information Technology system; and
  • Supervises the duties of subordinate library staff and/or volunteers.


SELECTION CRITERIA:

  1. Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills including application of customer service principles and practices.
  2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  4. Demonstrated experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

The Manager, Campus Library Operations is responsible for managing and developing effective and efficient operations at the Melbourne Burwood Campus Library and overseeing the multi-campus provision of information assistance services. The Library’s services support the University’s strategic imperatives for teaching and learning and research and are aligned with the University Strategic Plan.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Provide expert leadership and management of library operations at a large campus including motivating and training staff to develop cost effective, high performing services.
  • Develop targeted frontline and information assistance services across all campuses to support the learning and teaching and research needs of students and staff.
  • Monitor service performance and ensure that service standards align with benchmark libraries.
  • Liaise with all Managers of Faculty Library Services and Frontline Services staff to identify key training needs and develop targeted programs to build staff capability.
  • Manage the daily operation of a campus based team, providing advice and direction on strategies for effective delivery at the Melbourne Burwood Campus Library.
  • Oversee development, documentation, implementation and review of frontline services operations, work practices and procedures and monitor associated University policy and procedures.
  • Analyse and interpret data to plan, inform and review service delivery and resource requirements
  • Lead designated projects and contribute to innovations, action plans and strategies that support University and Library strategic priorities.
  • Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.

SELECTION CRITERIA - ESSENTIAL
Training/Qualifications (or equivalent experience):
Degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in library and information science which qualifies for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.
Skills/Techniques:

  • Demonstrated ability to implement action plans, innovations and strategies aligned with operational plans and strategic priorities and targets.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage staff, including recruitment, selection, training, performance appraisal and budget management.
  • Demonstrated experience with library systems and student learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, establishing and leading effective work teams, locally and cross-campus.
  • Experience in the management and strategic delivery of client-facing services in a large library.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data and implement quality improvement processes
  • Knowledge of contemporary library practices and trends relating to information assistance services, library spaces and facilities and library collection services.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, capacity to solve problems, make independent decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and implement change in the workplace.

Adult Services Librarian

As part of the Senior Management Team you will help to develop policy and influence the future direction of the Corporation. You will manage adult collections and information services for our six branch libraries. Your role will also include staff training, promotion of the service and budget management. You will report directly to the CEO.

Essential criteria include: professional tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science; relevant experience in libraries, preferably public libraries; demonstrated ability to co-ordinate small teams; a strong commitment to customer focused service.

High Country Library Corporation provides services to communities across the beautiful North East area of Victoria, a region that includes alpine resorts, historical towns, and a growing regional economy. Leisure, career, health and educational opportunities are in abundance.

This is a full time position, and does not require shift or weekend work.

This position is classified as Band 6, with a starting salary of $62,155.

Librarian - Wangaratta Library

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an out-going, community oriented person with a strong focus on customer service. The Wangaratta Library is a joint use facility, delivering both public and TAFE library services. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, duties will include customer service, supervision of the circulation desk staff, and developing and delivering programs to patrons.

A library qualification is essential. The position would suit an experienced Library Technician or new graduate. This full time position includes alternate Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

This is a Band 5 position with salary ranging from $50,897 to $59,207 per annum.
