This position is responsible for providing post office services to the community and general front counter and administrative support for West Arnhem Regional Council.

Key Responsibilities
  1. In collaboration with the Senior Customer Service and Administration Officer, ensure that high quality and efficient services are provided to Post Office and West Arnhem Regional Council customers.
  2. Ensure post office services are delivered in accordance with the West Arnhem Regional Council and Australia Post service agreement, including but not limited to: -
    • a. collecting mail from and transporting mail to the Maningrida airport in accordance with postal security requirements
    • b. sorting incoming and outgoing mail c. completing appropriate postal-related documentation such as changes of
    • address, theft or loss of mail and special services such as registered or priority mail
    • d. processing money orders, receipting monies, operating the EFTPOS system, recording and balancing daily transactions and ensuring security processes
    • e. selling and collecting payment for postage products such as stamps, prepaid mail envelopes and money orders
    • f. obtaining signatures from recipients of registered or special delivery mail g. weighing letters and parcels, computing mailing costs based on type, weight and destination, and affix correct postage h. posting announcements or other approved information on public bulletin boards.
  3. Identify areas of improvement and develop these to increase revenue, efficiencies and service levels.
  4. Receive notifications for repairs and maintenance of Council assets from tenants, guests and members of the community ensuring all relevant information is gathered, and refer to appropriate staff for action.
  5. Assist Council guests to check out of Council-provided accommodation. 
  6. Deal directly and promptly with customers in person and on the telephone in a courteous manner.
  7. Assist in the recruitment, training and mentoring of local Indigenous staff to work in the Council office. 
  8. Other duties relevant to the delivery of Council services as required.
  9. In accordance with work health and safety legislation,
    • a. ensure you work safely, the way you work does not cause harm to others and you use measures within your control that prevent injuries or illnesses, and
    • b. within your area of responsibility, ensure compliance with work health and safety legislation and Council’s work health and safety policies and procedures.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
  1. Good knowledge and experience in office administration and customer service
  2. Basic understanding of accounting practices
  3. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  4. Ability to use initiative and good judgement to solve problems
  5. Well developed interpersonal skills
  6. Good skills in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook, Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new systems as required
  7. Strong organisational skills with the ability to be adaptable and work well under pressure in order to complete tasks within required timeframes
  8. Ability to be discreet, maintain confidentiality and discern sensitive issues
  9. An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people
  10. Good understanding of Work Health and Safety in the workplace
  11. Current NT Drivers Licence – C Class
    Desirable:
  12. Certificate in Business Administration

Vehicle Mechanics serve in the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) where they inspect, service, repair and maintain all types of motor vehicles including motorbikes, four wheel drives, trucks, trailers, plant equipment, marine equipment and armoured vehicles.

Pay and Benefits

You’ll be paid while you undertake your training, and receive free healthcare and subsidised accommodation. Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay and on completion of training; this occupation attracts a starting rate of $140.44 per day (tax free).

Employment Location

Postings range from large Combat Service Support Battalions (CSSB) located in most capital cities to small technical support platoons and squadrons located throughout Australia.

Entry Requirements

You must be at least a 17 years old male and an Australian citizen, or hold Permanent Residency status. Additional age, medical and fitness guidelines may apply.

Education Requirements

Completion of Australian Year 9 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics.

Must have completed a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical (Heavy Road Transport or Heavy Vehicle Mobile Plant Equipment or Light Vehicle or equivalent qualifications) and have these qualifications certified by the Army Logistic Training Centre.

We are a subsidiary of Adelaide Brighton Ltd (ABL) a leading Australian integrated construction materials and lime producing company with operations in all mainland states and territories of Australia.

Northern Cement comprises two plants for the grinding of cement clinker (Darwin) and the manufacture of quicklime and limestone products (Mataranka). The lime operation includes a quarry-situated 30kms to the east, producing up to 90,000 tonnes of crushed limestone. The lime plant includes material handling and storage, two vertical shaft lime kilns, quicklime storage and despatch facilities. Annual capacity is 30,000 tonnes and employs approximately 13 people.

The Plant operator reports to the Production Supervisor and duties of the role includes:

  • Performing all duties adhering to safe, quality and the environmental responsible work practices
  • Operate a quicklime manufacturing plant and related equipment
  • Operate various mobile equipment and crushing plants.
  • Usually work in teams of two on a continuous shift roster.
  • Responsibility for ensuring product output, quality and well performing plant equipment
  • Perform product testing and take corrective action to ensure production targets are met.
  • May be required to assist in quarrying operations
  • May be required to coordinate maintenance tasks and liaise with suppliers and transport contractors.

Reporting to the Safety Manager you will need strong administrative skills and the ability to work independently when required as well as the flexibility to work within the Safety Team. The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Collate and file all incidents investigations in a central register
  • Enter corrective actions on to a central register & assist with follow up to ensure they are completed as per the agreed timeframes
  • Compile summary reports on completed task observations, inspections and hazard hunts on a monthly basis and distribute to relevant designated personnel
  • Provide administrative support to the Safety Manager
  • Maintain control of all relevant documents and correspondence in accordance with procedures
  • Collation of all site safety statistics as per contractual requirements
  • Assist the Training Advisors / Superintendent to maintain an organized, efficient and effective office environment
  • Ensure secure achieving of personnel training records upon termination of employment

To be successful in this position you will have demonstrated experience in a similar role, knowledge of MS Suite is required as is high attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will also have strong relationship building, good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

This is a Darwin based, residential opportunity. Site hours of 6.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday is required, as is availability to work on Saturdays according to a roster. Remuneration will be commensurate to your experience and reflective of the commitment required to perform this critical role.
