The Manager, Campus Library Operations is responsible for managing and developing effective and efficient operations at the Melbourne Burwood Campus Library and overseeing the multi-campus provision of information assistance services. The Library’s services support the University’s strategic imperatives for teaching and learning and research and are aligned with the University Strategic Plan.
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Provide expert leadership and management of library operations at a large campus including motivating and training staff to develop cost effective, high performing services.
- Develop targeted frontline and information assistance services across all campuses to support the learning and teaching and research needs of students and staff.
- Monitor service performance and ensure that service standards align with benchmark libraries.
- Liaise with all Managers of Faculty Library Services and Frontline Services staff to identify key training needs and develop targeted programs to build staff capability.
- Manage the daily operation of a campus based team, providing advice and direction on strategies for effective delivery at the Melbourne Burwood Campus Library.
- Oversee development, documentation, implementation and review of frontline services operations, work practices and procedures and monitor associated University policy and procedures.
- Analyse and interpret data to plan, inform and review service delivery and resource requirements
- Lead designated projects and contribute to innovations, action plans and strategies that support University and Library strategic priorities.
- Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.
SELECTION CRITERIA - ESSENTIAL
Training/Qualifications (or equivalent experience):
Degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in library and information science which qualifies for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.
Skills/Techniques:
- Demonstrated ability to implement action plans, innovations and strategies aligned with operational plans and strategic priorities and targets.
- Proven ability to lead and manage staff, including recruitment, selection, training, performance appraisal and budget management.
- Demonstrated experience with library systems and student learning management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, establishing and leading effective work teams, locally and cross-campus.
- Experience in the management and strategic delivery of client-facing services in a large library.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse data and implement quality improvement processes
- Knowledge of contemporary library practices and trends relating to information assistance services, library spaces and facilities and library collection services.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, capacity to solve problems, make independent decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and implement change in the workplace.

Salary: | $77,161 - $83,514 p.a. (plus 17% superannuation) |
