The Queensland Education Leadership Institute (QELI) was launched in September 2010. The Institute’ s purpose is to provide high quality professional learning opportunities that focus on developing the professional capabilities of current and aspiring school leaders to lead whole school improvement and implement effective strategies to raise student achievement.
The Institute’ s role and functions include:
- providing a range of professional learning services including short and long term professional learning courses
- developing and maintaining strong relationships and networks with education stakeholders
- through collaborative arrangements, supporting research initiatives that better inform the Institute’ s professional learning services.
The Institute will provide a platform to establish a collective professional ‘voice’ for research-led leadership practices and equip school leaders across the Queensland schooling sectors with the skills and training they need to help drive major education reforms.
Corporate Governance
QELI was established as a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001, governed by a board of seven directors. The Chief Executive Officer manages the day to day operations of the Institute and reports directly to the Board.
Key functions
The Institute’ s role is to:
- conduct the Queensland Education Leadership Institute
- provide high quality professional learning opportunities that focus on developing the professional capabilities of current and aspiring school leaders
- develop and provide a range of professional learning programs, training, courses and other related services in school leadership development and other related fields
- maximise access for all of Queensland’s current and aspiring school leaders to quality professional learning services, including by use of advanced technologies
- ensure professional learning services are research informed and responsive to the needs of current and potential school leaders and the school sector priorities
- facilitate access to new and flexible pathways to support and encourage participation in graduate programs.
Your responsibilities
As the Assistant Accountant, you will:
Assist the Business Manager with the management of the financial function of QELi including:
- Preparation of all Bank and Petty Cash Reconciliations
- Preparation of Monthly Balance Sheet and General Ledger Reconciliations
- Responsibility for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions of the Institute
- Assist the Business Manager with Management and Board Level Reporting
- Assist the Business Manager with the Annual Audit of the Institute
- Data entry processing for all Credit Card, Cab Charge, Petty Cash and other financial transactions
Skills and experience required for this role
Within the context of the duties described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has:
- Degree qualifications with one to two years commercial experience in a similar role.
- The motivation and ability to both work in a team environment as well as autonomously.
- Strong attention to detail, along with high level customer service and communication skills.
- Previous MYOB Accounting software experience is highly desirable.
Reporting relationships
This position reports directly to the Institute’ s Business Manager (or nominated officer by CEO.)
Key Performance Indicators
- Responsibility of the Institute’ s Accounts Payable Ledger, including entering and timely payment of all supplier invoices.
- Responsibility of the Institute’ s Accounts Receivable Ledger, including entering all sales invoices and monitoring the ledger to ensure timely payment from customers.
- Reconciliation of all Bank and Cash Accounts on Day One of Month End.
- Assist the Business Manager to develop and prepare all of the Institute’ s Management and Board Level Financial Reporting.
- Assist the Business Manager with the preparation and conduct of the Institute’ s Annual Audit.
