RURAL CRITICAL CARE STREAM:
If you wish to reside in the country and would like to specialise in critical care nursing, then the Rural Critical Care stream of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Practice is for you! Rural Critical Care provides Registered Nurses with aunique combination of theory and clinical practice. Students study while earning a salary. Successful applicants willrotate equally between the Critical Care Unit and the Emergency Department at Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW), as well as attend University of Melbourne (UOM) education sessions at the Rural Heath Academic Centre in Shepparton or Wangaratta one day per fortnight.
Northeast Health Wangaratta is a busy 228 bed integrated health service in North East Victoria. Wangaratta is a region offering great natural beauty and exceptional recreational opportunities. This is the Land of Legends, Wine and High Country, with convenient access to snow skiing, water sports, bushwalking, wine tasting and touring areas. All facilities are available locally and Melbourne is just over 2 hours away on an excellent freeway.

There is paid supernumerary time and clinical support facilitation structured into the program to enhance and facilitate participant learning. A course in Rural Critical Care will prepare you to conceptualise aspects in all areas of assessment, management and evaluation of clients ranging in age from infancy through to the elderly, with a multitude of clinical presentations. The emphasis is on multidisciplinary, holistic, patient centred care that is evidence-based. The course prepares you to work in environments that may range from small district hospitals through to base and tertiary referral centres.
