Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking an Alliance Production Engineer to join our Mining team at Tropicana Gold Mine. This role is based on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
Reporting to the Mining Manager, this role is accountable to facilitate the successful implementation of the 3MS, through the co-ordination of the mining contractor to complete work packages, and data monitoring/analysis. The role is central to the successful communication, planning and coordination of work within the mining area. You will manage 2 direct reports and the ability to be cross-functional and perform mine planning/scheduling when required is essential.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
- Review the content and quality of all medium term schedule Work Packages. Provide advice to planners and schedulers so that work packages:
- can interact safely with other work packages;
- consider any operational changes;
- limit disruption to the mining and processing operations;
- optimise resource utilisation;
- compliant with Company, Site, Alliance and Department protocol where applicable;
- identify potential conflicts with other workgroups activities.
- Co-ordinate along with the Macmahon Project Engineer medium term schedule Work Packages within the Active Mining Area so they can be achieved safely and effectively
- Develop the following medium term schedule Work Packages within the mining area:
- Clear and Grub;
- Growth Medium;
- Load and Haul;
- Stockpile Management;
- Waste Landforms;
- Tailings Storage Facility (Bulk fill).
- Monitor compliance of the weekly and monthly schedule and work packages to the medium term schedule
- Coordinating the collection and monitoring of the following:
- day works;
- drill and blast;
- safety, health, environment;
- load and haul;
- hydrological;
- geotechnical;
- planning compliance;
- Mining Systems accuracy.
- Coordinate the monthly progress claim so that it is completed within the contractual specified time
- With the collated cost analysis, report on a monthly basis:
- Variance;
- Trends;
- Special causes;
- Risks;
- Opportunities.
- Manage the following cost centres with a value of ~$50 M pa:
- Clear and Grub;
- Load and Haul;
- Waste Landforms;
- Record contract variations, communications and invoices
- On an annual basis, review the current Mining Contractor cost model
- Lead or participate investigations into production losses related to open pit mining
- Run a daily task meeting with technicians to set work assignments, priorities and related HSEQ matters
- Maintain a training and development program for each subordinate
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Tertiary Education in Earth Sciences/Spatial Science/Resources, or equivalent
- Experience with large scale, open pit hard rock mining
- Experience in contract administration, progress claims and contract variations, preferably in an alliance contract environment
- Experience in managing mining and continuous improvement projects
- Experience in incident investigations
- Competent in at least one General Mining Package (eg Vulcan, Datamine or MineSight), a dedicated Scheduling Package (eg MineMax, Tempo, Xpac)
- Advanced ability with Microsoft Office software including Excel and Project.
- Competent with basic software and database programming, including SQL; VBA; PERL, OLAP
- A practical and cooperative approach to teamwork
- Competent with public speaking, including inductions, presentations to management and external visitors
- Professional membership status in an appropriate Australian organisation
- Ability to apply analytical, planning and prioritising skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork
- Managerial development qualifications
- Good skills and knowledge in:
- technical writing
- project management
- management of consultants
- management of change
- computers and software
- Valid Australian C Class Driver’s Licence
