The Protective Security Section is responsible for assisting the Department to implement and maintain a systematic approach to protective security that meets both Departmental needs and Australian Government standards.
This includes:
- the development, implementation and monitoring of Departmental protective security policies and procedures;
- the provision of high level protective security advice to stakeholders;
- knowledge of protective security risk management strategies;
- delivery of protective security training and awareness programs;
- responding to protective security incidents; and
- knowledge of Departmental security clearance programs.
Description of the role
The Assistant Agency Security Adviser (ASA) is responsible for delivering high level protective security policy and advice to the Department. The position also involves providing leadership, direction and guidance to staff managing the Department’s Protective Security programs.
Key skills required include:
- High level leadership skills with a strong focus on staff management and providing a high degree of client service.
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to organisational priorities and achieve positive results.
- A detailed knowledge and understanding of the Australian Government Protective Security Framework (PSPF).
- Ability to deliver clear, concise and relevant protective security policy advice that supports FaHCSIA values and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
- High level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and sound judgement,
- experience in, protective security operations across multiple sites, and
- an ability to work under pressure with limited supervision in order to meet deadlines.
Desirable qualificationsCertificate IV in Government (Security) or Diploma of Government (Security)
A firm understanding of the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Relevant experience in conducting risk assessments and/or policy development.
