Job Description

Under general direction, the Security Officer is responsible for implementing Memorial security and a range of building and asset services. The work involves: advising and reporting on security matters, monitoring and performing security services and providing a point of contact for all building and associated services. Security Officers provide mobile security patrols across all Memorial sites, monitor security systems, staff critical access points, escort visitors and guests and implement security arrangements. In emergencies, the Security Officer may act as Deputy House Warden and assume responsibility for visitors, staff, buildings and contents.

Notes: This is a security assessed position (Negative Vetting 1).Security Officers wear corporate wardrobe and work to a roster including on-call and overtime. A current driver’s licence is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction participate in provision of a client focused security and facility service including:
  • Provide advice and information to staff and visitors on a range of security matters;
  • Provide a client service for staff and contractors on a range of asset and building services including building and exhibition maintenance, cleaning, equipment management and repair;
  • Staff the static control room position, monitoring of security systems and mobile patrols across all sites;
  • Manage building access and movement of personal items, and security and disposal of lost property;
  • Participate in security arrangements for ceremonies, VIP visits and escort official visitors and guests.
  • Provide short term relief of senior security staff and assist in training in emergency procedures and safety equipment.
  • Implement approved procedures to direct and control staff and visitors in emergencies.
  • Manual handling and movement of objects, including but not limited to bollards and barricades.
  • Abide by and further the principles and practices of Work Health and Safety as outlined in the WHS Act, taking reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensuring that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.

Technical capabilities

Physical ability to perform safe manual handling techniques and move a variety of items as require.
