JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Laboratory Technician provides support to teaching staff in the area of routine chemical and equipment preparation and construction of simple apparatus for science classes. The position works under the guidance of the Head of Science, Head of Learning Area, Teacher-in-Charge of Science or the Laboratory Technician Level 2. The Laboratory Technician assists Science staff by:
SELECTION CRITERIA:
ESSENTIAL
1. Ability to work independently and proven effective time management skills.
2. Knowledge of general science to Year 12 level or approved equivalent knowledge or experience.
3. Commitment to safe practices and willingness for further training related to safety.
4. Good oral and written communications skills and basic computing skills.
DESIRABLE
5. Knowledge of and experience in general laboratory practices and techniques.
6. Knowledge of laboratory safety requirements and procedures.

- ordering supplies and equipment and managing stock levels
- performing basic repairs and maintenance of equipment
- constructing teaching aids as required
- caring for and collecting living organisms for study purposes
- disposing of chemical, physical and biological laboratory materials.
