Information Services Branch supports FaHCSIA’s business by providing an information base that is a strategic resource for developing and enabling FaHCSIA, by:

  • Defining and describing data and information, and capturing it into an evidence base derived from a single source of truth.
  • Managing and sharing information to enable the business and build corporate knowledge.
  • Protecting data and information from unauthorised access.
  • Complying with legislative requirements and standards for the storage, usage, management and disposal of information assets.

Description of the role


This role will have responsibility for a large team of library staff, and oversee the collections (print and electronic) held in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. It will also drive the continued development of the Virtual Library Framework including improvements to the technical infrastructure, web development and procurement, management and cataloguing of all resources.

Desirable qualifications / Additional Comments about the Position

Tertiary qualifications in Librarianship and/or Information Management, and eligibility for professional membership in ALIA are highly desirable.

Experience in a senior role in libraries or information management would be expected, along with high level information technology skills.

Assessment Criteria

The following criteria reflect the abilities, qualifications, experience, standard of work performance and personal qualities sought in the occupant of the position.
  • Criterion 1 - Demonstrated high level skills and experience in team management, preferably in a library or information environment. Working knowledge of library cataloguing, collection development, and administration of library systems and applications, would be an advantage.
  • Criterion 2 - Shapes strategic thinking : Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and implement information services and products which support the strategic objectives of key client groups.
  • Criterion 3 - Achieves results: Evidence of successful implementation of new initiatives and/or projects which have improved information service delivery.
  • Criterion 4 - Cultivates productive working relationships: Demonstrated supportive team leadership and evidence of good relationship building with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Criterion 5 - Exemplifies personal drive and integrity: Demonstrated professionalism, probity and resilience displayed in the workplace, in accordance with APS Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Criterion 6 - Communicates with influence: Evidence of performance in a senior role in a library or information environmentwhich has required advisory skills, professional influence and/or persuasion.
