Information Services Branch supports FaHCSIA’s business by providing an information base that is a strategic resource for developing and enabling FaHCSIA, by:
- Defining and describing data and information, and capturing it into an evidence base derived from a single source of truth.
- Managing and sharing information to enable the business and build corporate knowledge.
- Protecting data and information from unauthorised access.
- Complying with legislative requirements and standards for the storage, usage, management and disposal of information assets.
Description of the role
The role of the Section Manager is to develop the strategic vision for library and information services and intent for the future that supports the strategic priorities of the department.
This position also has reponsibility for Library Services’ business relationships and agreements, contractual and procurement processses for all resources, and evaluative reporting requirements to executive management.
Leadership of this large section requires strong and visionary people management skills and a wide knowledge of all aspects of contemporary library and information management.
The Section Manager is part of the senior management team in Information Services Branch.
Desirable qualifications / Additional Comments about the Position
Tertiary qualifications in Library or Information Management and eligibility for Associate membership of ALIA.
Experience with the administration of budgets and resources.
Extensive leadership experience.
Experience with diigitatisation projects, content management software and/or Library Management Systems.

Assessment Criteria

- Criterion 1 - Strong strategic focus in developing a dynamic and responsive library and information service for two diverse client agencies.
- Criterion 2 - Extensive relevant management experience, including strong financial management and outstanding people management skills in a client-focused special, government or academic library environment.
- Criterion 3 - Proven results in the evaluation, selection and management of contemporary information resources to prove return on investment to the department.
- Criterion 4 - Proven information management skills, including a working knowledge of appropriate ICT: including software, library systems, information database products and web authoring.
- Criterion 5 - Demonstrated ability to lead a cohesive team in a rapidly changing workplace enviroment.
- Criterion 6 - Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, particularly relating to influentual library stakeholder management.
- Criterion 7 - Demonstrated awareness of and personal commitment to the APS values and Code of Conduct.
