The North Metropolitan Education Region and the South Metropolitan Education Region are seeking to establish a pool of experienced educators to join their dedicated team of Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) Teachers. The appointments will be to fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the twelve (12) month period from Term 2, 2012 up to the end of Term 1, 2013. Currently there are 5 vacancies that will be filled on a 12 month fixed term basis (full-time/part-time). Other vacancies that arise during the year will also be filled from the pool at any time for commencement within the twelve (12) month period from Term 2, 2012 up to the end of Term 1, 2013.

Suitable applicants will need to demonstrate a high degree of competence in the workplace, have an understanding of the needs of gifted and talented students, the ability to work independently and as part of a team and have excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to write differentiated curriculum units suitable for gifted students is highly desirable. Liaison with school personnel and parents is important as well as providing professional learning and support to Principals and Teachers to assist them in meeting the needs of gifted students in the mainstream school setting. The role also includes the participation in district planning and program reviews, provision of advice and support for parents and the organisation of the regions testing program.

The role of the PEAC Teacher will be primarily to provide extension courses for identified gifted and talented students in Primary Schools in either the North or South Metropolitan Education Region. Each of the two Regions comprises over 200 government School Select and Independent Public School Primary Schools. Identified students from these schools have access to programs conducted at PEAC Centres based at Balcatta, Kinross, Mt. Claremont, Belridge, Clayton View, Ballajura, Morley, Mirrabooka, Maylands and North Balga.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Ability to provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs as outlined in the Curriculum Framework;
  • Ability to use a range of assessment and reporting methods that show student achievement in relation to learning outcomes;
  • Commitment to plan and engage in professional learning activities that support school and systemic priorities;
  • High-level support and participation in team planning for curriculum policy and programs;
  • Collaboration with members of the school community building a team environment that supports student learning.

Appointments from this pool will be subject to clearance from the Staffing branch following the Referred Teacher and central placement process.

As approved by the Public Sector Commission (PSC), the Department for Education will be applying a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
